Contributor: Student Albertas Paulius Daugėla
Language(s) of text: Latin
Coverage: Late 17th Century
Subject: Course of political philosophy. Basically Aristotelian, but seemingly influenced by Stoic thought (Cicero?), with references to Plutarchus and St. Augustine. Pages 1-6: Classical Aristotelian definition and theory of the republic. Pages 6-12: History of oldest kingdoms and republics, especially in Greece. Page 12-17v: History of the Kingdom of Poland. Legends of Lech, Czech and Russ. Pages 18-18v.: Scandinavian states, less stringent description. Pages 19-20: empty. Philosophical content appears only in the first part (pp. 1-6). Political theory remains bound to ethics, ethnology, history. Terminology well balanced, rooted in late scholasticism (Suarez?) but seems open to contemporary discussion. However, in the following parts (p. 6 sqq.) philosophy is replaced by rather unprecise historiography and, finally, by mythology and legends. General orientation seems congruent with Polish/Lithuanian tradition of res publica mixta.
